Delta shuts 662 private schools

The Delta State Government has shut down
662 private primary and secondary schools,
allegedly said to be operating illegally in the
state.
Briefing journalists in Asaba on Tuesday on
the mid-term report of the Basic and
Secondary Education Ministry, the
Commissioner, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare,
said the action was necessitated by the new
state policy geared towards providing
qualitative education for beginners.
According to the commissioner, the affected
schools were built below the set standard
and in most cases, the schools were situated
in "very unconducive learning environment."
